A heated moment shook the Parliamentary Committee on Women and Social Affairs when Maoist MP Kalpana Miya Kusari threw a microphone after clashing with the committee chair, Kiran Kumar Sah.
The committee meeting was scheduled early in the morning at 7:30 AM. As the meeting was about to end, MP Kusari arrived late and tried to speak without permission, which angered Chair Sah. He asked her to get approval before speaking.
Kusari got upset with the chair’s response and threw the microphone toward other MPs sitting nearby. Chair Sah explained the mic was not thrown at him but toward other members.
MP Kusari admitted the argument happened. She said she was angry because she had informed the chair about her late arrival beforehand and felt the early morning meeting was inconvenient for women MPs who have family duties.
She also claimed the chair was upset because she kept questioning irregularities in committee monitoring and tried to silence her.
Chair Sah said the incident is under investigation and action will be taken against MP Kusari. He added the damage to the microphone will be assessed by the parliamentary secretariat.
This incident highlights tensions and disagreements that sometimes disrupt parliamentary work.
