Marc Marquez continued his perfect start to the 2025 MotoGP season by winning the sprint race at the Grand Prix of the Americas on Saturday. Just like in the first two race weekends of the season, his younger brother Alex Marquez finished second, while Francesco Bagnaia secured third place.
“The bike is working really well,” Marc said with a big smile after securing his fifth win in a row on his factory Ducati. Having already won both the sprint and main race in Thailand and Argentina, he now looks like the favorite to claim victory again on Sunday. He has won the main race at this circuit seven times before.
Marc started from pole position, his eighth at the Circuit of the Americas—a record. However, it wasn’t an easy start, as Bagnaia made a lightning-fast move from sixth on the grid to challenge him right from the first turn. Alex Marquez, riding a satellite Ducati, also joined the intense battle on the opening lap.
Despite the early pressure, Marc stayed calm and gradually pulled ahead, leaving his brother and Bagnaia behind. Once in the lead, he controlled the 10-lap sprint race and crossed the finish line first. With this win, he now has 86 points in the championship standings, 19 ahead of Alex.
“The first lap was really close,” Marc admitted after the race. “The grip wasn’t great, but I had a fun battle with ‘Pecco’ (Bagnaia) and Alex. In the end, I found my rhythm.”
Alex, who has now finished second in every race so far this season, was happy with the result. “Finishing second here in Texas feels like a win,” he said. “Marc is just on another level.”
Bagnaia, who celebrated his first podium of the season, was also pleased. “I really enjoyed the battle. Tomorrow, I’ll try to make the same strong start,” he said.
The Italian rider now sits third in the championship, 36 points behind Marc Marquez.
