Protest in Madhesh

Families of the Madhesh movement martyrs held a sit-in protest at the Ministry of Home, Communication, and Law of the Madhesh government.

They demanded clarification on the death of Ramnaresh Ray, a member of the Martyrs’ Foundation, job security for employed family members, and timely payment of wages.

The protesters said that the process of appointing new foundation members has stalled, health insurance plans haven’t moved forward, and family members who were previously on contract are now being forced into daily wage work or removed from their jobs entirely.

“The government is slowly removing martyrs’ family members from their jobs. No clear reason has been given for Ramnaresh Ray’s death, and wages aren’t being paid on time,” said Awadhesh Patel, father of martyr Chandan Patel. “Ministers are avoiding meetings with the families,” he added.
