Meta is reportedly gearing up to launch a standalone app for its AI assistant, Meta AI, as part of its strategy to compete more effectively with AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. According to CNBC, the app could be released as soon as Meta’s next fiscal quarter, between April and June. Currently, Meta AI is accessible only through Meta’s family of apps, such as Facebook and WhatsApp, and via its website.
In addition to the app, Meta is considering introducing a paid subscription service for Meta AI, offering additional features and capabilities. However, the specifics, including the pricing, remain unclear.
With over 700 million active monthly users, Meta AI is central to the company’s broader AI ambitions. Meta has been aggressively working on open-source models, such as Llama, which it believes could help create an ecosystem that rivals OpenAI’s. To further its AI goals, Meta plans to host its first-ever AI-focused developer conference, LlamaCon, in late April.
