Mikey Madison‘s journey to a “Galaxy Far, Far Away” has come to an unexpected halt before even taking off. The actress, who recently won an Oscar for Best Actress, was initially offered a role in an untitled Star Wars movie directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine. However, according to Variety, Madison has decided to pass on the part, ending talks before any significant progress could be made.
The upcoming Star Wars film, which is still untitled, is being penned by screenwriter Jonathan Tropper and will star Ryan Gosling. Levy, who has been developing the project since late 2022, is also producing the movie under his 21 Laps production company, alongside Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy.
This film is expected to be a standalone story, separate from the Skywalker saga that concluded with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. While the plot details remain a mystery, the movie will follow The Mandalorian & Grogu, which marks the first Star Wars film to be greenlit in over five years. That film, which has already wrapped principal photography, is set to be released on May 22, 2026.
As for Mikey Madison, the 26-year-old actress is best known for her role in the FX series Better Things, as well as for her performances in Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood and Scream 5. However, it was her performance in Sean Baker’s Anora that truly marked a turning point in her career, as it was the first project she didn’t need to audition for. Reflecting on her past, she mentioned, “I was going through my Dropbox the other day and saw hundreds of auditions I’ve done, so many hours of work.”
