JioHotstar is set to premiere Mistry, a gripping new crime dramedy featuring Ram Kapoor as Armaan Mistry, a genius detective with a germophobic streak who sees what others miss. Produced by Banijay Asia in partnership with Universal International Studios, the series will launch on June 27. Mistry is an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed American show Monk, originally starring Tony Shalhoub, and is directed by Rishab Seth.
The recently released trailer showcases Ram Kapoor’s character as a sharp, unconventional investigator whose keen observations help solve baffling cases. Alongside Ram, Shikha Talsania plays Sharanya, Mistry’s insightful assistant. Together, they assist Mona Singh’s Sehmat and Kshitish Date’s Bunty by bringing fresh perspectives to crime scenes that leave others stumped.
Director Rishab Seth shared his enthusiasm about the project, saying, “Mistry isn’t your typical detective series. It’s a thriller that blends humor with suspense, keeping viewers hooked while offering a character-driven narrative. Armaan Mistry’s quirks and genius form the core of the story — a fascinating contradiction that made directing this show a truly memorable experience. Working with Ram and Mona was nothing short of incredible.”
Ram Kapoor, who recently gained acclaim for his role in Jubilee, describes Armaan Mistry as one of the most intriguing characters he’s portrayed. “Armaan’s eccentricities are more than quirks; they are coping strategies that help him bring order to chaos. He steps into disorder and finds clarity. Taking on this role was deeply fulfilling — Mistry is quirky, unpredictable, and full of heart,” Ram explained.
Mona Singh, portraying Sehmat, Mistry’s police partner, emphasized her character’s importance in balancing and challenging Armaan’s unusual methods. “Sehmat doesn’t shy away from Armaan’s odd behavior — she counters and complements him, often outsmarting him herself. The series makes you laugh, think, and laugh again because the characters are unapologetically authentic. That’s what will resonate with audiences,” Mona said.
Shikha Talsania, who plays Sharanya, shared how the show’s unique blend of thriller and humor allowed her to explore new dimensions as an actor. “This project was a thrilling experience. The manic unpredictability and humor kept the energy alive on set. Working with Ram, Mona, Kshitish, and our dynamic director Rishab was like being part of a creative playground — it was pure joy.”
