Mobile Robbery Gang, Three Arrested in Kathmandu

Police have arrested three suspects involved in multiple mobile phone thefts in Kathmandu’s Tankeshwar area. The accused—Suraj Thapa Magar, Santosh Tamang, and Pravin Bhandari—have admitted to repeatedly carrying out robberies.

The trio was caught late Sunday night around 8:30 PM after reports of a mobile snatching incident in Tankeshwar. According to police spokesperson SP Apil Raj Bohara, the suspects are linked to at least eight separate cases of theft and robbery.

Suraj Thapa Magar, known as “Chwanche,” is 24 years old and from Kalikati, Kathmandu, along with Santosh Tamang, also 24, from the same area. Pravin Bhandari, 19, is from Dhunibeshi Municipality, Dhading.

Police revealed that Suraj had a prior conviction in 2080 BS for misconduct, while Pravin was previously sentenced in 2081 BS for theft but had escaped punishment.

This arrest aims to curb the rising incidents of mobile phone theft in the capital and ensure public safety. Authorities are continuing investigations to see if the suspects are involved in other crimes.
