The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) has warned that dengue could infect over 60,000 people in Nepal this year. During an interaction program, experts highlighted that the risk is growing quickly.
Highest Risk Between July and November
Dr. Gokarna Dahal, Head of the Vector-Borne Disease Section at the EDCD, said that the monsoon season (from Shrawan to Kartik) brings a high chance of a dengue outbreak. He urged the public to stay alert, as the disease can spread rapidly in any part of the country.
Early Signs Already Visible
According to Dr. Dahal, around 1,600 cases have already been confirmed from 73 districts. However, he added that the actual number may be higher since many people don’t show symptoms, avoid testing, or don’t receive official reports even after testing.
Local Governments Hold Key Responsibility
Dr. Dahal mentioned that action plans are already in motion to prevent and control dengue outbreaks. He emphasized that local governments play a major role and assured that the central government is coordinating closely with them to take preventive steps.
