MP Subedi Questions Home Minister's Role in Airport Visa Scam

Nepalese lawmaker Jhakku Prasad Subedi has accused Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak of being directly involved in a human trafficking scheme at Tribhuvan International Airport. Speaking at the National Assembly, Subedi claimed that under the guise of visit visas, a network is smuggling people abroad, allegedly with the involvement of the Home Minister’s secretariat.

Subedi expressed outrage, stating that after the Bhutanese refugee scandal, this new visa scandal further tarnishes the nation’s reputation. He questioned the country’s direction, asking, “What kind of country have we become, selling unemployed citizens for money?”

According to Subedi, there are reports of up to NPR 5 million being collected daily at the airport through this scheme, implicating high-level officials in the Home Ministry. He criticized the Home Minister for attempting to shift blame onto lower-level employees while being personally involved.

Subedi called for an impartial investigation and suggested that the Home Minister should resign. Opposition parties are also demanding the Home Minister’s resignation and the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee, leading to disruptions in the House of Representatives.

This controversy has sparked widespread political and public concern, highlighting issues of corruption and accountability within the government.
