Gotti was born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. and became well-known for co-founding Murder Inc. Records in 1998, a record label under Def Jam Recordings. He worked as a producer for hip-hop stars like Jay-Z, DMX, Kanye West, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Eve, and many more.
Irv Gotti’s health issues
The details about Gotti’s final moments have not been shared yet. Sources only told AllHipHop that he was “declared dead” on Wednesday morning.
Gotti had a history of health problems, including diabetes. In 2023, he spoke about his struggle with the disease. “It’s rampant with Black people,” he said on Drink Champs. “It starts deteriorating your body. No, [it’s not under control]. I’ve had diabetes forever; it’s hereditary. When my [blood sugar] gets too high, I take a shot [of insulin]. It’s reversible, but you have to change your diet. But you know what’s messed up about diabetes? Everything that tastes good is bad for you. Now, what’s some nasty stuff? Broccoli… You’re supposed to eat leaves or stuff like that.”
Last year, Gotti said diabetes had taken over his life. “Diabetes is deteriorating my body,” he said.
In August, Gotti’s representative said he had suffered a “minor stroke” after Wack 100 leaked photos of him walking with a cane. “Irv has been struggling with diabetes for years, which caused him to have a minor stroke over six months ago,” the rep told TMZ. “He has since changed his diet and started eating healthier. He has made a full recovery. Irv is not in a rehab facility. He is at home with his family, enjoying life.”
A few days later, Gotti spoke to The Shade Room about his health. “I’m getting older. That’s all. The only thing worse than getting old is not getting old,” he said.
