Napoli (Gli Azzurri) are now just one win away from lifting their fourth Serie A title after a tense 0-0 draw away at Parma. Despite not finding the back of the net, the point keeps them one step ahead of Inter Milan, who were held 2-2 by Lazio in Milan.
Antonio Conte’s side couldn’t finish the job in Parma but still have the title in their hands heading into the final round of the season.
Parma frustrate Napoli in gritty encounter
The pressure was on Napoli heading into the match, but it was relegation-threatened Parma who started stronger. Ange-Yoan Bonny gave Napoli’s defense a tough time, troubling Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Amir Rrahmani in the opening stages.
Gli Azzurri eventually found their rhythm and controlled possession. Andre-Frank Anguissa almost opened the scoring with a superb overhead kick, but the ball bounced off the post. Parma’s Simon Sohm tested Alex Meret twice before the break, while Zion Suzuki pulled off a stunning save from Scott McTominay’s free-kick in the second half.
VAR drama and missed opportunity
Napoli thought they had a golden chance to win the match in stoppage time when a penalty was awarded for a foul on David Neres. However, VAR ruled out the decision due to a foul in the build-up.
As the match ended goalless, Gli Azzurri fans experienced an emotional rollercoaster. They celebrated when Lazio equalised against Inter, went silent when Inter retook the lead, and then rejoiced again when Lazio made it 2-2.
Final day showdown awaits
Napoli have now drawn back-to-back matches, but a win against Cagliari on the final day will secure the Scudetto regardless of Inter’s result. However, they will be without manager Antonio Conte, who was sent off late in the match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.
If Napoli fail to win and Inter defeat Como, the title will stay in Milan for another year.
