Diljit Dosanjh’s latest Punjabi film ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ has sparked major controversy due to the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Amir. The film faced backlash and was not released in India, stirring widespread debate. Now, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has come forward to defend Diljit against the criticism.

Controversy Over Pakistani Actress Hania Amir

The film’s teaser did not mention Hania Amir, but when the trailer was released, her presence became clear. This led to negative reactions from many viewers who opposed Pakistani actors working in Indian projects, especially after recent political tensions.

Ban On Pakistani Artists After Pahalgam Attack

Following the April Pahalgam attack, the Indian government imposed a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. Despite this, ‘Sardaar Ji 3’ included Hania Amir, which led to calls for the film’s ban in India. Several celebrities spoke against Diljit, but others supported him, including Naseeruddin Shah.

Naseeruddin Shah Says Diljit Was Not Responsible For Casting

Naseeruddin Shah took to Facebook to express his support for Diljit Dosanjh. He clarified that Diljit was not responsible for casting decisions, which were handled by the film’s director. Shah criticized those attacking Diljit and questioned the motives behind trying to stop friendly relations between people of India and Pakistan.

He also shared his personal experience of having close friends and relatives across the border and said he will not stop communicating with them despite political pressures.

‘Sardaar Ji 3’ Released Amid Controversy

The film was released in cinemas on June 27 but did not get an official release in India. Along with Diljit and Hania Amir, the film features Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa. The makers said the shooting was completed before the Pahalgam attack.

Due to the controversy, Neeru Bajwa removed all posts related to the film from her Instagram account
