In a recent speech at the inauguration of the 30th edition of “CAN Infotech” in Kathmandu, Communication and Information Technology Minister Prithvishubba Gurung shared the government’s commitment to transforming Nepal into an IT hub. He emphasized that the government is prepared to develop necessary policies, laws, and infrastructure to support the growth of the IT sector in Nepal.
Minister Gurung highlighted that the Ministry is ready to facilitate the creation of the necessary framework for this transformation, aiming for collaboration between the government and private sector to establish Nepal as a global IT hub.
“We have just begun with the IT sector,” said Minister Gurung. “We are ready to create the required policies, laws, and infrastructure to develop the IT sector. With hard work and determination, we can make Nepal a recognized IT hub.”
The Minister also expressed confidence that this year, Nepal would see greater revenue generation from the IT sector compared to the previous year, especially with the implementation of the recent ordinance aimed at boosting revenue. He noted that the IT sector could soon contribute more to the national economy than tourism.
Additionally, Minister Gurung shared exciting news about Nepal’s own satellite project, developed with the assistance of Indian scientists. This marks the country’s first step toward self-reliance in space technology.
Reflecting on the tourism sector, Minister Gurung acknowledged the challenges faced, including underutilized airports and inadequate infrastructure. Despite years of focus, progress in tourism development has been slow.
In contrast, he expressed hope for greater progress in the IT sector, noting that the government is determined to build an environment conducive to scientific research and development within the country, eliminating the need to send researchers abroad for opportunities.
