Nepal is abuzz with festivities as people celebrate Christmas Day 2081 (2025) in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity. The Government of Nepal has announced a public holiday today, December 25, for this special occasion.

The Story Behind Christmas

Jesus Christ believed to have been born 2,025 years ago in Bethlehem, Israel, is revered worldwide as a symbol of love, peace, and salvation. Christians commemorate this day in three significant ways:

  • Love Day, reflects Jesus’s message of compassion.
  • Peace Day, honoring his efforts to establish harmony.
  • Salvation Day celebrates the hope of spiritual liberation.

Since 2063 B.S., Christmas has grown in prominence in Nepal. Initially celebrated with public holidays until 2074 B.S., the tradition evolved, with exclusive holidays for Christians from 2075 to 2077 B.S. In 2078 B.S., the public holiday was reinstated for everyone.

Today, Christmas is recognized as a major cultural and religious event, with greetings and well-wishes from Nepal’s President, Prime Minister, and political leaders.
