Nepal to Host 15th International Open Friendship Taekwondo Championship

Nepal is gearing up to host the 15th edition of the International Open Friendship Taekwondo Championship (IOFTC) from December 18 to 20, 2025, at the Dasharath Stadium Covered Hall in Kathmandu. This prestigious event, organized by IOFTC Nepal with support from the Portland-based IOFTC USA, marks a special milestone celebrating 25 years since the championship’s inception in 2000.

Global Participation Expected

The championship is anticipated to welcome over 700 athletes from 15 countries, including South Korea, the United States, the Philippines, Australia, Austria, Canada, Pakistan, India, Hong Kong, China, Mexico, and the Maldives. Competitors will vie for a total of 65 gold, 65 silver, and 130 bronze medals across various categories.

Diverse Competitions and Special Events

Athletes will compete in senior, junior, and cadet divisions, encompassing both male and female participants across different weight categories. The event will feature disciplines such as Poomsae (forms), board breaking, and sparring. Notably, the opening day will include a Poomsae seminar conducted by Korean coach Min Hak Seo.

Honoring Taekwondo Excellence

Adding to the event’s prestige, Olympic gold medalist and World Taekwondo Federation President Moon Dae-sung is scheduled to visit Nepal during the championship, underscoring the global significance of the tournament.

A Legacy of Friendship and Competition

Since its establishment in 2000, the IOFTC has been held biennially, alternating between the United States and other host nations. Previous editions have taken place in countries such as Nepal, India, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Michigan (USA), and South Korea. This 15th edition not only commemorates a quarter-century of taekwondo camaraderie but also highlights Nepal’s growing prominence in the international taekwondo arena.
