Due to the upcoming Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand, India, some border points between Nepal and India will be closed for a few days.
Election Dates and Closure Schedule
The Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand are scheduled for July 24 and 28. Because of this, the border checkpoints in Baitadi and Darchula districts will be closed during certain periods to maintain security.
Specific Border Points Affected
- Darchula’s Pulghat border point will be closed from the evening of July 21 to the morning of July 24.
- Baitadi’s Jhulaghat border point will be closed from August 23 to August 26 (Nepali months Sawan 9 to 12).
Possibility of Emergency Openings
If there is an urgent need, the border can be opened temporarily based on mutual agreement between Nepal and India.
Purpose of the Closure
This temporary closure aims to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the elections in the neighboring Indian state.
