In a significant move, the government has ordered the freezing of 16 bank accounts belonging to the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) in nine different banks. The decision comes after a directive from the National Sports Council (NSC), chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary. The NOC accounts frozen include accounts in Global IME, Machhapuchhre, Nepal Investment Mega Bank, Standard Chartered, NIC Asia, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Prime Commercial, NMB, and Nepal Bank Limited.

NSC Board Meeting Leads to Account Freezing

Earlier, in an NSC board meeting, it was decided that the NOC’s accounts would be frozen, and officials would face restrictions on international travel. This decision was made to address concerns regarding the committee’s functioning and to enforce tighter control over its activities.

Ministry Requests Nepal Olympic Committee Account Details

On March 24 (Chait 10), the Youth and Sports Ministry formally requested detailed information about the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC)’s accounts from Nepal Rastra Bank. In response, Nepal Rastra Bank provided the requested details on April 16 (Baisakh 3), confirming the presence of 16 accounts across nine banks.

Banks Confirm Nepal Olympic Committee Accounts Frozen

On April 20 (Baisakh 7), the Youth and Sports Ministry issued formal instructions to these banks, asking them to freeze the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) accounts. An inspection followed to confirm compliance, and by April 24 (Baisakh 11), all nine banks confirmed that the accounts had been successfully frozen.

This decision marks a significant development for the Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), with serious implications for its operations and the future of Nepal’s involvement in international sports competitions.
