Nepal Proposes Global Climate Health Summit

Nepal has proposed to host a global climate health summit in the country next year.

Health Minister Pradeep Paudel shared this news during a press meet at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from the 78th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Minister Paudel said the World Health Organization (WHO) responded positively to Nepal’s proposal. He also explained how climate change is already affecting Nepal’s health system.

Since Nepal is part of the Himalayas, the minister said health problems here are unique and deserve global attention. He hopes the WHO will support the event.

Minister Paudel also noted that Nepal’s recent progress in health care has been appreciated by other countries. He mentioned that WHO has recommended higher taxes on products that harm health, and the Finance Ministry has already been asked to include this in the upcoming national budget.
