Nepal has received Rs 900.58 billion in remittances during the first seven months of the 2024/25 fiscal year, from mid-July 2024 to mid-February 2025, according to Nepal Rastra Bank’s (NRB) report on the country’s macroeconomic and financial situation.
This amount marks a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year. When calculated in US dollars, the rise is 5.3%. In just one month, from mid-January to mid-February, remittances reached Rs 137 billion.
Although more people are going abroad for work, the growth in remittance inflow has slowed. A total of 465,508 people left for foreign employment in the seven-month period. Among them, 274,622 were first-time job seekers with work permits, and 190,886 renewed their permits. This is higher than last year’s numbers, where 245,432 first-time job seekers and 157,445 permit renewals were recorded.
The remittance breakdown by month shows Rs 136.93 billion in mid-July to mid-August, Rs 126 billion from mid-August to mid-September, Rs 144 billion from mid-September to mid-October, Rs 114 billion from mid-October to mid-November, Rs 119 billion from mid-November to mid-December, and Rs 119 billion from mid-December to mid-January.
