Nepal’s national judo team has made the country proud by winning 5 gold medals at the BKSP Cup Judo Championship 2025, held in Bangladesh. Altogether, the team secured 10 medals, finishing second overall in the international tournament.
PAM Players Lead with Most Medals
Out of Nepal’s 10 medals, players from Prisoner Assistance Mission (PAM) contributed significantly, winning 4 golds and 1 bronze. According to the National Sports Council (NSC), all five PAM athletes returned home with medals.
Gold Medal Winners for Nepal
Nepal’s gold medals came from the following judokas:
- Sabin Kumar Diyali – Men’s below 60kg
- Bishes Bik – Men’s below 66kg
- Nisha Shrestha – Women’s below 48kg
- Binita Nepali – Women’s below 52kg
- Pema Yangji Sherpa – Women’s below 57kg
All three female champions—Nisha, Binita, and Pema—are from PAM.
Silver and Bronze Medalists
In addition to the gold medals:
- Ribaj Lama Tamang won silver in the Men’s below 45kg category.
- Buddha Gurung (Men’s below 55kg)
- Bigyan Tikhtri (Men’s above 73kg)
- Samita Nepali (Women’s below 44kg)
- Rekha Shrestha (Women’s below 63kg)
Each took home bronze medals. Samita is also a PAM athlete.
Total 12 Players Represented Nepal
Nepal sent a team of 12 players, five of whom were from PAM. Every PAM player brought home at least one medal, showcasing the training and discipline of the organization.
Coaches and Officials
The team was guided by coaches Radha Devi Rai and Laxmi Tamang. Notably, Rai also served as a referee during the tournament. This was confirmed by Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya.
Bangladesh Wins Overall Title
The host country, Bangladesh’s BKSP team, topped the medal table with 6 golds, 8 silvers, and 10 bronzes. Nepal’s second-place finish reflects the growing strength of judo in the nation.
