Nepal has achieved great success in the 16th World Yoga Sports Championship, winning 6 medals, including 2 golds. The competition took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 5 and 6. A total of 31 athletes from Nepal participated in various age groups.

Nepal’s Successful Performance: 2 Gold, 1 Silver, and 3 Bronze

The Nepalese team came home with an impressive medal count—2 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals. These medals were earned by athletes from different age categories:

  • Gold Medals:
    • Prayasjung Chauhan (9-11 years, male)
    • Pratyusha Khatriwada (12-14 years, female)
  • Silver Medal:
    • Amish Patel (9-11 years, male)
  • Bronze Medals:
    • Kiran Magar (9-11 years, male)
    • Sanskriti Chalaigai (female)
    • Sundar Sarki (15-17 years, male)

A Wide Representation of Athletes

The 16th World Yoga Sports Championship, organized by the International Yoga Sports Federation, saw participation from 153 athletes across 23 countries. The event showcased the global reach and popularity of yoga sports.

Nepal Yoga Sports Association’s Growth

Since joining the International Federation in 2017, the Nepal Yoga Sports Association has organized several competitions. These include:

  • 3 South Asian competitions
  • 6 national-level competitions
  • 1 provincial competition
  • 2 valley-level competitions

The association currently has nearly 500 yoga athletes.

Training and Development for Athletes

According to Kedarnath Bastakoti, President of the Bagmati Province Yoga Sports Association, efforts are being made to enhance athletes’ skills through various training programs at national, provincial, and district levels. Bastakoti has significant experience in the yoga sports field, having served as a player, coach, and referee.

This success in international competitions highlights Nepal’s growing presence in the world of yoga sports and the ongoing efforts to improve athletes’ performance through structured training programs.
