Starting March 8, Uganda will host the Four-Nation Women’s T20I Cricket Series. The tournament features Nepal, Uganda, Hong Kong, and Namibia, making it a significant event for women’s cricket in Nepal.

This series provides Nepal with another opportunity to compete at the international level just a month after playing against Thailand and the Netherlands at home.

A New Opportunity This tournament is an important step for Nepali women’s cricket as they prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers. Uganda is the highest-ranked team in the competition at 18th, followed by Namibia at 17th. Nepal, ranked 21st, will face a strong challenge, while Hong Kong is ranked 22nd.

For Nepal, this series presents a valuable chance to gain exposure against higher-ranked teams. Captain Indu Barma expressed the importance of the event, stating, “This series will help us improve and prepare for future global qualifiers.”

Head coach believes Nepal has made progress, particularly in strengthening its squad with young talents. After a disappointing performance in the last home series, the team aims to make a strong comeback.

Nepal’s Previous Encounters Nepal has played against two of the three teams before.

  • Uganda: Played a five-match series in Kathmandu, which Uganda won 3-2.
  • Hong Kong: Faced eight times, with Nepal winning four matches, Hong Kong winning three, and one ending without a result.
  • Namibia: Nepal will face Namibia for the first time in women’s cricket.

Opponents’ Views on the Tournament Uganda’s head coach highlighted their nine-month break from international cricket and emphasized the team’s readiness. Uganda last played in June 2024, winning the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament.

Namibia enters the series as the top-ranked team. They recently finished runners-up in a quadrangular series in Hong Kong and previously whitewashed Malaysia 3-0 in a bilateral series.

Hong Kong’s coach sees this tournament as a crucial opportunity to rebuild after mixed results in recent competitions.

Tournament Format The competition follows a double round-robin format, where each team plays six matches. The top two teams will advance to the final on March 16, while the remaining teams will compete for third place.
