Nepali cinema has added a historic milestone as the poster of Nepal’s first-ever movie, Aama, has now been featured on official postage stamps. This special announcement was made during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Film Development Board.
Aama laid the foundation of Nepali cinema
Released in Ashoj 2022 B.S., Aama is regarded as the beginning of Nepal’s film industry. Directed by Hira Singh Khatri, the movie starred Shiv Shankar Khatri and Bhuvan Chand in lead roles. It is widely considered a landmark film in Nepal’s early cinematic journey.
Two special stamps released at Rs 10 each
In recognition of Aama’s contribution, the Postal Services Department has issued two commemorative stamps, each priced at Rs 10. These stamps feature the lead actor and actress from the movie. The unveiling ceremony took place during the board’s anniversary event.
Movie legends and officials attended the unveiling
The special event was graced by veteran Nepali actresses Bhuvan Chand, Chaitya Devi, and Basundhara Bhusal. Also in attendance were Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, Film Development Board Chairman Dinesh DC, and Postal Department Director General Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeini.
Designed with care and cultural pride
The stamps were designed by branch officer Chandra Thapa. Speaking at the event, Director General Pangeini expressed strong belief that these stamps will help spread Aama’s historical and cultural value globally.
