Newcastle United has won the English Football League Cup. In the final on Sunday night, they defeated Premier League leaders Liverpool 2-1 to secure the title.
Dan Burn and Alexander Isak each scored a goal for Newcastle. Federico Chisa scored Liverpool’s only goal, but it was not enough.
Newcastle took the lead in the 45th minute with Burn’s goal and went into halftime 1-0 ahead. In the 52nd minute, Isak doubled the lead.
Chisa scored for Liverpool in injury time, but they couldn’t equalize.
This is Newcastle’s first major title since 1969. With this victory, they have also secured a spot in the Europa Conference League.
