In the first five months of the current fiscal year, twelve rhinos have been found dead in Chitwan National Park and nearby areas.
According to the park’s information officer, Abinash Thapa Magar, four of the dead rhinos were males and five were females. One of them was found dead after being electrocuted. Thapamagar also mentioned that the sex of three of the dead rhinos could not be identified.
During the same period, a tiger was also found dead. Thapa Magar reported that the tiger, around six years old, died after fighting with another tiger in the Nandapur Ghat area of Amaltari on the 16th of Mangsir.
In addition, during these five months, two people were killed and four others were injured due to rhino attacks. The two people who died were from Bardghat Susta in Nawalpur, according to Thapamagar.
The park authorities have also controlled illegal activities within the park, detaining 150 people for illegal actions. These included rhino poaching, tiger-related crimes, unauthorized pig farming, cutting grass and firewood without permission, fishing, and gathering medicinal plants. The authorities have taken necessary action against those involved in these activities.
