Affair and money behind Bimlesh Yadav’s murder

The murder of 28-year-old Bimlesh Yadav, also known as Shani, from Mahottari Gaunpalika-1, Parsa, appears to be the result of an extramarital affair and financial dispute, according to preliminary police findings.

Bimlesh was fatally attacked with a knife and pushed from the first floor of Hotel SP & Guesthouse in Janakpur on Saturday night. CCTV footage shows Bimlesh entering the hotel at 9:55 PM with a young woman. Nearly five hours later, at 2:57 AM, he is seen falling from the hotel’s first floor—naked and covered in blood.

Minutes later, the woman seen with him on CCTV is captured walking downstairs, looking around, and fleeing the scene. Police arrived soon after and took Bimlesh’s statement. The footage also shows him walking into the ambulance on his own. Unfortunately, he died during treatment at the Provincial Hospital Janakpur around 7:45 AM Sunday.

Following the incident, police arrested 24-year-old Juli Jha from Balwa Municipality, Mahottari, on Sunday afternoon. Dhanusha police spokesperson DSP Barun Bahadur Singh confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and currently focused on Juli, who is believed to have been involved in the incident.

One officer involved in the case said the murder appears to have been premeditated, based on CCTV evidence and testimony. “We suspect this was a planned act,” a police source said.

Bimlesh was a father of two. Despite being married, he had a relationship with Juli for over three years. According to family sources, both families were aware of their affair. Two years ago, after discovering their communication through phone records, a formal complaint was filed with the Mahottari District Police. A written agreement was made that both parties would stop talking and even change their phone numbers.

Despite this, their contact continued, especially while Bimlesh was working abroad. Family members revealed he had sent around NPR 2.7 million (approx. USD 20,000) to Juli during his time in foreign employment, and receipts of those transactions are reportedly still available.

Bimlesh had returned from Qatar about six months ago. Reports suggest that Juli wanted to end their relationship, but Bimlesh demanded the return of the money he had sent. This led to conflict between them, according to a family source. “He told her, ‘If you want to leave, return the money I sent you from abroad,'” the source said.

Police believe this financial dispute, combined with their strained relationship, played a major role in the tragic outcome. Investigators are now analyzing additional evidence, including hotel CCTV footage, some of which family members claim is missing or turned off for 17 seconds. They have called for a broader investigation into the possibility of other people’s involvement.
