Efforts are underway to transform the birthplace of Nepal’s first poet and national luminary, Aadikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, into a renowned literary and cultural destination. As part of this initiative, the inaugural Bhanu Nagar Festival will take place from December 25 to January 5.

The festival, organized by the Bhanu Nagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be held in Bhanu Municipality-1, Bhansar. The event aims to promote the area as a significant literary hub on both national and international levels.

Krishna Kumar Shrestha, chairman of the Bhanu Nagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and coordinator of the festival’s main organizing committee, stated that the festival seeks to highlight the importance of Bhanu Bhakta’s birthplace, which has been neglected for years. “This festival is our effort to establish Chundi Ramgha, Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s birthplace, as a key destination for literary tourism,” he said.

The organizers expect over 100,000 visitors to attend the festival, with anticipated economic transactions of approximately Rs. 6.4 million. To ensure smooth operations, several sub-committees have been formed under the main organizing committee, according to Krishna Chandra Koirala, the general secretary of the organizing team.

The festival will feature a variety of activities, including visits to Chundi Ramgha and nearby landmarks, industrial exhibitions, and sales of local products such as oranges, lentils, ginger, and fresh vegetables. Additionally, there will be fairs, a duet singing competition featuring popular artists, and cultural programs showcasing traditional clothing and the lifestyles of indigenous communities.
