Four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome sustained a broken collarbone following a crash during the UAE Tour.
The 39-year-old cyclist was involved in a mass pile-up within the first 10km of the final stage on Sunday.
His team, Israel-Premier Tech, confirmed the injury, stating: “A CT scan revealed a fracture to his right clavicle. Chris will be evaluated by an orthopedic specialist on Monday to determine if surgery is required for stabilization.”
This setback raises uncertainty about Froome’s participation in what is anticipated to be his final competitive season.
The two-time Olympic bronze medallist and winner of multiple Grand Tours, including the Vuelta a España and Giro d’Italia, had hinted in December that he might retire after this year’s Vuelta in September.
