Police intervened in a protest organized by Akhil Krantikari, a student wing close to Nekapa Bahumat, at Maitighar Mandala on Monday morning.
Tensions rose when police began detaining participants. Some students were forcefully pushed into police vans, leading to scuffles as others tried to free them from custody.
The protest was organized to pressure the government to introduce a people-oriented education act that ensures free, equal, and scientific education. The group had planned to gather at Maitighar from 10 AM and march towards New Baneshwor.
However, police started making arrests right from Maitighar, and protestors began chanting slogans against the administration in response.
