A clash broke out between the police and locals in Janakpur, Dhanusha. The incident took place in Ward No. 23 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City in Bindhi.
Locals blocked the Janakpur-Jaleshwor road, demanding the arrest of those involved in a recent stabbing and murder case. When the police tried to clear the road, the situation escalated, leading to a clash. The police fired multiple tear gas shells to control the crowd.
Stone Pelting and Injuries Reported
During the clash, locals threw stones at the police, forcing them to retreat. Several police officers and locals were injured, but the exact number has not been confirmed yet.
Dhanusha’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhuvaneshwar Tiwari stated that details about the number of tear gas shells used and the total injuries are still unclear.
The Murder Case Behind the Protest
The protest is linked to the brutal murder of 15-year-old Ashu Yadav. On Chaitra 2 (mid-March), during the Holi festival, a dispute broke out when 21-year-old Dharmendra Mahato allegedly stabbed Ashu to death.
Dharmendra was arrested immediately, but his accomplices, including Rakesh Mahato (who reportedly provided the knife) and others who helped lure Ashu out of his home, are still on the run.
Ongoing Protests and Road Blockades
Frustrated by the delay in arresting the remaining suspects, Ashu’s mother, Archana, along with other locals, started a road blockade at 8 AM today.
Although the police managed to clear the road once, the protesters blocked it again, according to SP Tiwari.
This is not the first protest regarding the case. On Chaitra 13, locals had also blocked the road, demanding justice. That time, the police reportedly promised arrests within two days, but SP Tiwari denies any such agreement.
Suspects May Have Fled to India
SP Tiwari stated that some of the accused had escaped to India, making their arrest difficult. However, he assured them that the main suspect, Dharmendra, was already in custody, and efforts were ongoing to catch the remaining culprits.
A Mother Left Without Support
Ashu’s father, Pappu Yadav, had passed away six months ago. Now, with the tragic loss of her only son, Ashu’s mother, Archana, is left completely alone.
