A tragic fire in Gulmi’s Dhurkot rural municipality–5, Amarai, claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman on Saturday night.

According to Superintendent of Police Narayan Prasad Adhikari, the fire broke out around 3:00 AM at the mud-and-stone house of local resident Manidevi BK. Her daughter, Juna BK, who had mental health issues, was alone in the house and died on the spot.

The one-story house with a tin roof was completely engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, Manidevi and her two grandsons—12-year-old Shridhar BK and 11-year-old Arun BK—were able to escape unharmed.

Police said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. After receiving information around 5:45 AM, a police team from Dhurkotbastu outpost reached the scene. With help from locals, the fire was brought under control by 6:30 AM.

Further investigation is ongoing, and a team led by Inspector Rewant Sen from Purkotdaha Police Office has been deployed to the site.
