Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski is in a race against time to be fit for the Europa League final against Manchester United, following surgery on his right knee.

The 25-year-old Swede suffered a patella injury during Tottenham’s recent Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. After consulting specialists, Dejan Kulusevski underwent surgery on Wednesday.

Kulusevski in doubt for the final clash in Bilbao

Although Spurs haven’t officially ruled Dejan Kulusevski out for the final, his participation is now in serious doubt. He has begun his rehabilitation process under the club’s medical team, but time is not on his side.

Kulusevski had only just returned from a previous foot injury last month and played a crucial role in both Tottenham’s quarter-final and semi-final victories in the Europa League. His absence would be a significant blow for Spurs ahead of the final in Bilbao next Wednesday.

Postecoglou’s earlier comments questioned

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou had earlier downplayed the issue, calling it “more of a knock than anything serious.” But with Kulusevski now sidelined post-surgery, that comment seems misjudged.

More injury woes for Tottenham

Dejan Kulusevski now joins James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall on Tottenham’s growing injury list. Both players have already been ruled out of the final.

Positive update on Son Heung-min

On a brighter note, captain Son Heung-min made his return against Crystal Palace and is expected to feature in the final. Postecoglou confirmed that Son is physically fit and will continue building his match readiness in the coming days.

“It was important he got some minutes yesterday against Crystal Palace,” said Postecoglou. “He had a good session today and feels good. We’ve still got over a week to prepare.”

Will Kulusevski make a miracle recovery?

With the Europa League final fast approaching, Dejan Kulusevski’s availability remains uncertain. Tottenham fans will be hoping for a quick recovery, but as it stands, the Swedish star is a major doubt for the showdown against Manchester United.
