Detective Sherdil Movie Review- Detective Sherdil wants to be a quirky comedy-thriller — complete with exotic European views and a playful lead. But despite the colorful backdrop of Budapest and a star like Diljit Dosanjh in the lead, the film struggles to find its tone. It’s flashy, loud, and full of style — but lacks the clever writing and tension that a good whodunit needs.
A Detective Who Feels Out of Place
Diljit Dosanjh plays Sherdil, a detective in the Budapest police force, who behaves more like a stage performer than an investigator. His comic antics might raise a few laughs but feel disconnected from the seriousness of the murder mystery. Meanwhile, Diana Penty as Natasha, his level-headed partner, does her best to bring logic into the chaos — but it’s often drowned in background noise and visual clutter.
The Case: A Billionaire, a Will, and a Dog
The central plot is full of potential: a rich man, Pankaj Bhatti, is found dead under suspicious circumstances. His last will? A shocker — he leaves his vast fortune not to his family, but to his daughter’s boyfriend and the family dog. The twist sparks outrage and suspicion among the dysfunctional Bhatti family, and Sherdil is called in to solve the case.
The setup promises tension, secrets, and drama. But the film constantly undermines itself with misplaced jokes, exaggerated visuals, and a soundtrack that’s more distracting than dramatic.
Worth a Watch?
Despite its scenic European setting and a few decent laughs, Detective Sherdil struggles to be the stylish comedy-mystery it wants to be. It has charm in flashes, but overall feels like a noisy, confused mix of genres that leaves little impact.
