Starting today, Dharahara will remain open to the public every day from 8 AM to 8 PM. According to Narayan Mainali, spokesperson for the Ministry of Urban Development, this new schedule will also apply on Saturdays and public holidays. Previously, the historical tower was only open from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The ministry decided to extend the opening hours after receiving frequent requests from the public, who had been complaining about the limited visiting time and closures on holidays. Now, Dharahara will operate in two shifts to better serve visitors.
Since its official reopening to the public on Mangsir 9, seven months ago, the tower has welcomed over 237,065 visitors. During this period, it has collected more than Rs. 4.33 crore in ticket revenue, as reported by the Central Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Urban Development.
The original Dharahara was destroyed in the earthquake of Baisakh 12, 2072 (April 2015), and the newly reconstructed tower was first opened for public viewing on a trial basis on Asoj 3, 2080. It is now being operated under a paid entry system as per the Special Structure Operation and Management Development Committee Order 2081.
With extended hours and availability even on holidays, the iconic landmark is expected to attract even more visitors in the coming months.
