Eight Quintals of Ganja Smuggler Arrested After Two and a Half Years

In Saptari, Nepal, a man accused of smuggling over eight quintals of ganja has been caught after two and a half years. The police arrested 35-year-old Joganan Mandal, also known as Budhan, from Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1, Bharadah, on Sunday night.

The police had seized 810 kilograms of ganja on Poush 14, 2079 (early January 2023), from an eastern island near Koshi Barrage. The ganja was found in 27 bags buried under sand and soil. However, the main suspect Mandal had managed to escape until now.

According to DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet, Mandal has been held for an additional seven days for investigation related to ganja smuggling. He is also under probe for other charges.

This arrest is significant in the fight against drug trafficking in the region. Police continue to investigate to uncover more details.
