In Ilam’s Mai Municipality-4, four people have been arrested in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl. The police caught the suspects, including the main accused, who tried to settle the case by offering Rs. 300,000 in cash to the victim’s family to stop them from going to court.
The arrested individuals include 24-year-old Keshab Giri from Mai Municipality-2, who is accused of the rape, his 58-year-old father Kedarnath Giri, his 43-year-old uncle Narayan Giri, and their 38-year-old neighbor Tuladhar Aryal. The Ilam District Police Office confirmed the arrests.
The police arrested them on Sunday. Keshab Giri and his uncle Narayan Giri were caught while hiding near the border area of Ilam and Jhapa, while Kedarnath Giri and Tuladhar Aryal were arrested from their homes.
All four suspects have been remanded for seven days by the Ilam District Court for further investigation.
The incident occurred on Chaitra 6 in a tea garden in Sitali, Mai-2, where Keshab Giri allegedly lured, threatened, and raped the 13-year-old girl from Ward No. 4.
After learning about the incident, a police team from Danabari Police Post began searching for the accused, who had fled. During this time, it was revealed that Tuladhar Aryal had offered Rs. 300,000 to the victim’s family to settle the matter. The police recovered the money from the victim’s mother during the investigation.
The victim’s mother filed a complaint at the Ilam District Police Office on Chaitra 9, stating that the accused had pressured her to drop the case.
