The number of criminal cases registered at the Dadeldhura District Police Office has increased significantly in recent years. In the fiscal year 2079/80, there were 99 cases, which rose to 190 in 2081/82. Most of these cases involve domestic violence, banking fraud, sexual violence, drug trafficking, suicide, and child abuse. Out of the 190 cases, 111 have already been resolved. Domestic violence cases reached 42 in the past year, with most settled by police or through reconciliation. Banking crimes, such as bounced checks and loan disputes, accounted for 32 cases. Suicide incidents have also risen, with 26 registered hangings last year, often linked to social, economic, and mental health problems. Sexual violence cases increased as well, with eight rapes and four child abuse cases reported. However, many incidents go unreported, especially in rural areas, making it important to raise awareness so victims feel safe to speak up. Crimes are more common in certain areas like Alital, Parshuram, and Amargadhi. The police have been trying community programs like school visits and safety trainings, but their impact is limited. Factors such as mental health issues, unemployment, poverty, and misuse of technology contribute to the rise in crime. Experts recommend including crime prevention, mental health, and cybercrime education in local programs and school curriculums to help address these challenges.
