Jamie Lever speaks out: ‘I’m not a nepo kid, I’m an actor’s kid’

Actor and comedian Jamie Lever, daughter of legendary Bollywood comic Johnny Lever, has shared her candid take on nepotism and what it truly means to carve your own path in the film industry. In a recent interview with Zoom, Jamie said that while she is indeed the child of a famous actor, she does not consider herself a “nepo kid.”

“I’m seeing this very closely now,” Jamie explained. “There’s a big difference between being a nepo kid and being an actor’s kid. I’ve had to work my way up, facing rejection after rejection. Meanwhile, nepo kids often get easy access to roles—even before proving their talent.”

Learning to survive: her father’s no-nonsense advice

Jamie also shared a valuable lesson her father once gave her about survival in Bollywood: “If you want to enter this industry, be the best, or don’t bother at all.” She added that unlike those who are offered major film roles on a silver platter, she has gone through countless auditions and setbacks. “If you do get an opportunity, give it everything. Train hard. Be the best version of yourself.”

Jamie’s work in films and rise as a mimicry queen

While Johnny Lever’s legacy includes classics like Baazigar, Dulhe Raja, and Baadshah, Jamie is building her own fanbase. She has acted in films like Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, Housefull 4, Bhoot Police, Yaatris, and Crakk. Apart from movies, she’s widely recognized for her viral mimicry videos, where she hilariously imitates stars like Sara Ali Khan and Farah Khan.

Taking her comedy global with The Jamie Lever Show

Jamie is now ready to bring her signature comedy to the international stage. Her new stand-up tour, The Jamie Lever Show, kicks off in Seattle on August 1. She will perform across 15 cities in the United States, wrapping up in Boston on August 31.

Through her humor and honesty, Jamie Lever continues to prove that legacy may open a door—but persistence, talent, and grit are what make the journey worthwhile.
