Machhindra FC has completed a hat-trick of titles in the KP Oli Cup football tournament. In the third edition’s final held on Monday, Machhindra maintained its dominance by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 2-0.
In Machhindra’s victory, Stephen Jamah Jale scored one goal, while the other was an own goal. In the 29th minute, while attempting to clear a cross from Machhindra, Bimal Pandey accidentally scored an own goal, giving Machhindra the lead.
In the second half, on a cross from Yusuf Malik, Jamah Jale executed an excellent first-touch finish, doubling Machhindra’s lead. No further goals were scored, and Machhindra successfully defended its title once again.
It is rare to see a single team win the same domestic tournament title three times in a row in Nepal. Machhindra has maintained its excellent form and successfully defended its championship. Overall, the KP Oli Cup has proven to be a lucky tournament for Machhindra.
Unlike the previous two editions, where Machhindra had to go to a tiebreaker, this time, the team secured the title within the regulation time by scoring enough goals.
In the first edition’s final, Machhindra defeated Satdobato Youth Club in a tiebreaker, while in the second edition’s final, it won against NRT Club through a penalty shootout.
This is Machhindra’s second title this season, having previously won the Itahari Gold Cup.
