The Nepali movie Riyal Ringgit, which was released this week, has been pulled from theaters. The film’s producer, Gaganlal Pradhan, announced through a press statement that the screening will be stopped in all cinemas across Nepal starting Monday.
According to a media, the movie was not given a suitable release time. It was only shown during less effective hours, which made it difficult to reach the audience in the right way.
“Even though we received positive feedback from viewers and repeatedly requested better show timings, we were ignored. So, we had to make the tough decision to halt the screening,” said producer Pradhan.
The statement also mentioned that the film did not get proper showtimes despite all the hard work, effort, and investment made in its production. As a result, the team had no choice but to remove the film from cinemas. Rebel Films also apologized to the audience for any inconvenience caused by this decision.
Directed by Vibhor Pokharel, Riyal Ringgit tells the story of Nepali migrant workers in the Gulf countries and their struggles. The lead roles are played by Pramod Chaulagain and Nita Dhungana. Other cast members include Chhulthim Dolma Gurung, Rabindra Khadka, Dhruva Koirala, Prem Subba, Ramchandra Adhikari, Riyar Rai, Roshan Shrestha, Ishwari Baral, Bimala Giri, Seema KC, Sandeep Tamang, Subash Thapa Magar, and Bishal Thapa.
