Pokhara woman dies from COVID-19 as cases rise again

A 70-year-old woman undergoing treatment at Charak Hospital in Pokhara has died from COVID-19. According to Khimbahadur Khadka, the Director General of the Health Directorate Gandaki, she was admitted to the hospital after experiencing breathing problems and tested positive for the virus on Asar 25.

Despite efforts to treat her, her condition worsened, and she passed away on Shrawan 4. The patient was also suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, which further complicated her health.

Her COVID-19 test was conducted at the Gandaki Public Health Laboratory. Health officials have reported a recent rise in COVID-19 cases across the Gandaki province. In Kaski alone, five people have tested positive. Additionally, two cases were reported in Baglung and one in Syangja, bringing the total to eight new infections in the region.

Director General Khadka noted that various institutions including the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Western Regional Hospital, and Dhaulagiri Hospital in Baglung are actively conducting tests. He mentioned that even patients with mild symptoms have been testing positive.

This is the first reported COVID-19 death in Gandaki in nearly two and a half years. All recent infections in the province have been confirmed as COVID-19.
