Royalist Leaders Arrested in Tinkune Protest, Remand Extension Sought

Royalist leaders and activists arrested on charges of involvement in Friday’s protests, vandalism, and arson at Tinkune, Kathmandu, are being presented for an extension of their remand today for further investigation.

As they were arrested on the night of the protest and the following day was Saturday, the remand extension is being sought today, Sunday.

A total of 112 individuals were arrested during the violent protest. Among them are Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice President Rabindra Mishra, General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana, royalist activist Swagat Nepal, and the commander of Durga Prasai’s Royal Task Force (RTF).

Navaraj Subedi, coordinator of the movement for the reinstatement of the monarchy, has been placed under house arrest. The main instigator of the protest, Durga Prasai, remains at large.

According to SP Apil Raj Bohara, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Office, the arrested individuals will undergo screening before an extension of their remand is granted for further investigation.

The police have arrested those involved in inhumane, indecent, and illegal criminal activities. However, it has not yet been determined under which charges each individual will be prosecuted.

During the violent royalist protest on the 15th, two people, including a journalist, lost their lives.
