A 28-year-old prisoner named Harish Singh Pali, from Bhageshwar Rural Municipality-5 in Dadeldhura, died on Monday inside the Kailali District Jail. His death has raised serious questions, as his family is refusing to accept the body, calling the incident suspicious.
The body is currently kept at Seti Provincial Hospital in Dhangadhi. According to family members, Harish may have died from physical assault. His relative, Jagdish Rawal, claims Harish was tortured inside the jail, saying, “His body was covered in bruises, and there was blood coming from his head. We won’t accept the body until there is a proper investigation.”
Police spokesperson Raj Kumar Singh stated that Harish suddenly fell ill and was taken to Seti Provincial Hospital. “He died within half an hour of reaching the hospital,” Singh said.
Official records show that Harish was sentenced by Kailali District Court on Falgun 20 for a banking offense—10 days in jail and a fine of Rs. 200,000. He was arrested on Chaitra 31 from Tufandanda in Amargadhi Municipality-5. Shockingly, he died just a day after entering the prison.
