Nepal has officially estimated the total number of snow leopards in the country. According to the new data, there are 397 snow leopards living in different regions of Nepal.
One of the Rarest Big Cats in the World
Snow leopards are considered rare and endangered worldwide. In Nepal, their average population density is estimated to be 1.56 per 100 square kilometers. This shows how scattered and limited their numbers are in the wild.
Research Led by Key Environmental Departments
The population estimate was carried out by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation under the Ministry of Forests and Environment. Several organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal, helped in this assessment.
Data Revealed During Wildlife Week Event
The findings were announced during the closing event of Wildlife Week in Kathmandu. Experts say this information gives important insights into snow leopards and the condition of their habitats across Nepal.
