The incident happened on Saturday in Menchhayayem Rural Municipality-5. Rabina Rajbanshi, a nurse teacher at Gaukuri Secondary School, and 12-year-old student Sushmita Bhattarai, who studied in grade 7 at the same school, lost their lives.
A group of students had gone to the Khorunga River to swim. During the swim, the two victims and another student decided to make a TikTok video. While filming, two of them fell into a deep gorge. The students who were with them reported the incident.
Both victims died on the spot after falling into the gorge, according to DSP Chinimaya Tamang of the Tehrathum District Police Office. She mentioned that they seemed to have fallen while taking photos and videos.
“While swimming, the teacher and two students went a bit further. Two of them fell while filming, and the news was brought by the students who were with them,” she said. “The students who were present are in shock, so not all details are clear yet.”
