Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Vice Mayor Sunita Dangol has appealed to all elected representatives to participate calmly and responsibly in the ongoing budget-making process. She emphasized the need to avoid emotional or disruptive behavior and instead work together constructively.
In a public message, Dangol stated, “Let’s not worsen the situation, but handle it wisely. Let’s be calm and take part in the budget process.”
Due to the ongoing conflict between Mayor Balen Shah and the Chief Administrative Officer, the city has not been able to present its budget for the fiscal year 2082/83 by the constitutionally required date of Asar 10. Even essential meetings such as the executive committee and municipal assembly have not yet taken place.
Following this, former President Bidya Devi Bhandari held a discussion with Mayor Balen. The next day, Dangol released a message urging open dialogue and collective action. “We should not try to sink the boat for others while hoping to save ourselves. Let’s join hands and move forward together,” she said.
She criticized the idea of excluding the Chief Administrative Officer from official meetings, saying it violates legal procedures and could raise public suspicion. “It’s not right to block progress by blaming one person. If he’s at fault, action should be taken as per the law—but until then, his presence in meetings is essential,” she added.
Dangol also warned that failure to pass the budget would be a betrayal of the public’s trust. “We were elected to work for development and public welfare. If we fail to deliver the budget, it’s a failure toward the people of Kathmandu,” she said.
She concluded by mentioning that her informal talks with the Mayor, spokesperson, and some executive members showed positive signs toward resolving the issue and completing the budget process soon.
