Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Are Finally Live

Nintendo Switch 2

The long wait is over! Nintendo Switch 2 preorders officially started at midnight EST on April 24, 2025 (9 PM PST, April 23). You can now grab your console from top US retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Best Buy.

What’s Available? Two Main Options for Preorder

You have two choices:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 (Standard Model) – $449.99
  • Nintendo Switch 2: Mario Kart World Bundle – $499.99

The Mario Kart World Bundle offers better value. For just $50 more, you get the game (normally $79.99), saving $30. It’s also a limited-time release, so it may sell out faster than the standard model.

Where Can You Preorder the Nintendo Switch 2?

Here’s where to grab yours:

  • Walmart – Fastest delivery by 9 AM on June 5
  • GameStop – Midnight in-store pickup; online preorders from 11 AM EST
  • Target – Online preorders from 12 AM EST
  • Best Buy – Also started at 12 AM EST, midnight launch events planned
  • Amazon – Not available yet; listings still missing

Walmart leads the pack with early delivery, and it’s also offering the bundle at $499 flat, a slight discount from other stores.

Nintendo Switch 2 Games – What Can You Preorder?

Nintendo has revealed a huge list of games. Some are brand-new, while others are enhanced versions of popular classics. Available now for preorder:

  • Donkey Kong Bananza – $69.99 (Releases July 17)
  • Mario Kart World – $79.99
  • Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Switch 2 Edition
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World
  • Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV
  • Street Fighter 6 Year 1-2 Fighters Edition
  • Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma
  • Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (Standard & Premium versions)
  • Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion (Standard & Limited editions)

Not every game is launching on June 5. Some, like Donkey Kong Bananza, will be out later in July. Big titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still missing from the list.

Switch 2 Accessories Are Up – But Prices Have Increased

Nintendo’s accessories lineup is already live, but be ready to pay a little more. Due to market shifts, most accessories now cost $5–$10 more than previously announced.

Here’s what you can preorder:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
  • Joy-Con 2 (Light Blue/Red) & Straps
  • Carrying Cases & Screen Protectors
  • AC Adapter & Dock Set
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheel (Set of 2)
  • Samsung microSD Express Card 256GB

The Dock Set now costs $119.99 after a $10 price bump. If you’re planning to get the full setup at launch, consider ordering these now before they sell out.

When Will the Nintendo Switch 2 Be Released?

  • Release Date: June 5, 2025
  • Start Time for Preorders: April 24 at 12 AM EST
  • Expected Delivery: Walmart guarantees delivery by 9 AM on June 5 if ordered at launch
  • Stock Warning: Limited quantities expected due to high demand

Why Preorders Are Selling Fast, Global Demand Is Huge

Nintendo shared that more than 2.2 million people in Japan alone applied to buy through the My Nintendo Store. That’s far more than the number of available units.

If you’re serious about getting the console, don’t wait—especially for the Mario Kart bundle.

What to Do Before Preordering – Quick Tips

To increase your chances:

  • Log into your retailer’s site early
  • Save payment and shipping info in advance
  • Keep a backup payment method ready
  • Refresh often in case of slowdowns

Should You Wait or Preorder Now?

Nintendo has confirmed it won’t be able to meet demand on release day. Preorders will likely sell out quickly, especially for the bundle version. If you’re thinking of waiting, you might miss out.
