In a major twist ahead of the NSL 2025 final, Lalitpur City FC’s midfielder Mani Lama has been cleared to play after the controversial red card he received was officially revoked.
Mani Lama Red Card Drama: What Happened?
During the Qualifier 1 clash between Lalitpur City and Dhangadhi FC on Baisakh 6, Mani Lama was shown a straight red card in the 16th minute. The decision sparked widespread debate, as it appeared he had not committed a serious foul.
Lalitpur City FC immediately appealed the decision to the NSL organizer, Nepal Sports and Event Management (NSEM), claiming the red card was unjust.
NSL 2025 Appeal Committee’s Review
After reviewing multiple camera angles and match footage provided by the production team, NSEM concluded there was no clear evidence of Mani Lama engaging in revenge or violent conduct. As a result, the Appeal Committee decided to cancel the suspension, making him eligible for the final match.
In an official letter to Lalitpur, NSEM stated that Mani had not committed a punishable offense, and he is now free to participate in the championship showdown.
FIFA Referee Under Investigation
The referee who showed the red card, FIFA-listed Umesh Bhandari, is now under internal investigation for his controversial decision. The incident has raised concerns about officiating standards in NSL 2025.
In the same match, Dhangadhi’s midfielder Mohammad Al Jaouni received a yellow card for a foul on Mani Lama just before the red card was issued to Mani, further adding to the confusion.
Other Decisions and Impact on Final
Lalitpur also appealed the red card (double yellow) of another player, Pape Diecquet, but that appeal was rejected. This means Diecquet will miss the final, while Mani Lama will be available.
NSEM has also issued a reminder that everyone in the Owner’s Box during matches must maintain discipline moving forward.
With this decision, NSL 2025 fans can expect Lalitpur to field one of their most important midfielders in the final, potentially strengthening their chances of lifting the title.
