Two old socket bombs were discovered inside the premises of Bhagwati Secondary School in Nuwagaun, Triveni Rural Municipality-2, Rolpa. The bombs were found on Monday afternoon while workers were digging the foundation for a new school building.
Police say the bombs appeared to be from an earlier time and were likely left behind during the armed conflict. After the discovery, teams from Nuwagaun Police Post and Holeri Area Police Office reached the scene. A bomb disposal team led by Major Shankar Thapa from Surya Dal Battalion, Libang, successfully defused the bombs on Tuesday.
The operation took a full day as both the army and police worked together to ensure safety. According to Inspector Bijay Chapagain, the bombs were possibly placed during the Maoist insurgency era. At that time, the area had served as the headquarters of the Maoist Fifth Division and later hosted a Nepali Army unit. The school is located near Dahaban, a site with significant past conflict activity.
