Nepal is set to join the global running community in the One Run International Half Marathon on Saturday, May 24, 2025 (Jestha 10, 2082 BS). This synchronized event will see over 200,000 runners from more than 30 countries participate simultaneously, making it the world’s largest half marathon.
Starting Point: Patan Durbar Square
In Nepal, the race will commence from the historic Patan Durbar Square, near the revered Krishna Mandir. Participants will traverse a route that showcases Lalitpur’s rich cultural heritage, passing through Mangal Bazaar, Pulchowk, Jawalakhel, Ekantakuna, Satdobato, Balkhu, Kalanki, and Sitapaila, before returning to the starting point. This scenic course offers runners a unique blend of urban landscapes and historical landmarks.
Race Categories for All
The event offers four race categories to cater to runners of all ages and abilities:
- 21.1 km (Half Marathon)
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 1 km
These categories ensure inclusivity, allowing everyone from seasoned athletes to beginners, including children and senior citizens, to participate.
A Global Movement
One Run is organized by the Hero League, renowned for hosting mass sporting events worldwide. The 2025 edition marks the ninth iteration of this global event, with Nepal participating for the third consecutive year. The synchronized start across various countries symbolizes unity and the shared spirit of sportsmanship.
Nepal’s Participation
In Nepal, the event is organized by the NRS Sports Foundation, led by Mr. Nilendra Raj Shrestha. A seasoned sportsman and coach, Mr. Shrestha has been instrumental in promoting athletics in the country, having established the Kathmandu Marathon and hosted multiple South Asian Triathlon Championships.
Over 1,000 runners from Nepal are expected to participate, reflecting the nation’s growing enthusiasm for fitness and community events.
